What is acupressure?
Acupressure is an ancient healing art developed over 5,000 years ago. It is a noninvasive yet effective way to treat a variety of conditions. Finger or hand pressure is applied to specific points in the body to release blockages in the flow of life-force energy through the body's meridians (pathways). This activates the body’s Qi (pronounced “chee”) and encourages the body to enhance immunity, physical and emotional health. Practitioners use this alternative healing method to help people get well and stay healthy.
When energy pathways are blocked, pain and 'dis-ease' typically follow. Everyday stresses, as well as physical and emotional trauma, can block the flow of energy leading to disease, disability, or discomfort. Opening these pathways along the meridians of the body with therapeutic acupressure enables energy to move freely, allowing the body to heal itself.
Acupressure stimulates the body's natural self-curative abilities promoting healing and wellness.

what is a session with Rena like?
- During the initial session a health history will be taken. Questions will be asked regarding health and lifestyle.
- Clients lie fully clothed on a massage table.
- It is non-invasive. No needles are used.
- I work around the client, applying gentle hand and fingertip pressure to specific points on the body.
- Sessions are conducted in a soothing environment designed for healing.
You might feel nothing, or you might feel a variety of sensations such as tingling or twitching. Clients sometimes fall into a deep, relaxed sleep. As the blockages are released, a wide range of "releases" may be experienced such as sighing, stomach gurgling, waves of relaxation, flatulance, involuntary laughter or even an urge to cry. All of these releases are good and signs that energy is flowing.
What should I know before I receive a session?
- It is recommended that you not eat large meals just before your session.
- Take your prescriptive medications as indicated by your medical doctor.
- Refrain from alcohol at least 24 hours before a session.
- Abstain from street drugs for at least two weeks prior to a session.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- My studio is a non-judgmental and absolutely confidential space.
- I do not diagnose and I do not prescribe.
what will i experience during a session?
Every client responds in their own unique way. Some clients fall asleep. Others yawn, laugh, cry, pass gas, or may even experience a little twitch in their leg or arm (similar to what happens right before falling asleep at night). These are called ‘releases’ and they are all natural and welcome as your body’s energy flows and facilitates your healing.
Sessions allow the client's body to return to a natural state of balance. For many people, a session is a purely physical experience (i.e. before the session they had a headache and after the session it is gone). Others may experience emotional breakthroughs. Sessions generally provide the receiver total relaxation.

who can receive acupressure sessions?
Therapeutic acupressure is safe for people of all ages. Infants through the elderly. Sessions are for everyone, including pregnant women and women wanting to get pregnant.
how many sessions do I need?
There is no one-size-fits-all acupressure program. Each client is unique and each situation is assessed on an individual basis. The severity and duration of the problem, the client's constitution, and the quality of the client's Qi are all factors that are considered in determining a session plan.
Some people experience immediate relief; others may take longer to achieve results. For optimal balance:
If there is a pressing physical or emotional "dis-ease" it is recommended that sessions be received weekly, then bi-weekly, then tri-weekly, and then monthly (for 3 or 4 sessions at each interval) to get to a state of balance. Most clients return for sessions once a month, though many choose to receive them more frequently.
